St. Charles County Real Estate and Living

Located at the junction of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, St. Charles County has experienced phenomenal growth in population and housing over the last two decades. Its topography makes it one of the most scenic areas of metropolitan St. Louis.

About St. Charles County, Mo.

St. Charles Real Estate

Only seven miles from Lambert International Airport, St. Charles is a dynamic city covering an area of 19 square miles.

It is the seat of St. Charles County and is located on the Missouri River near its confluence with the Mississippi. Its history dates to 1765 when it was founded as Les Petites Cotes (The Little Hills) by French Canadian fur trader Louis Blanchette. Incorporated in 1809, the city served as Missouri's first state capitol (1821-26) and today is largely residential in nature.

The first state capitol building, the shops and restaurants along historic South Main Street and the antique shops of Frenchtown draw thousands of tourists to the city each year. Aside from its tourist attractions St. Charles boasts a thriving business community and a very active Chamber of Commerce.

St. Peters Real Estate

St. Peters, which takes its name from a small church built here in 1823, is located eight miles west of the I-70/I-270 Interchange. The city began as a French fur trapper's grant and flourished in the late 19th century as a railroad town. St. Peters was corporated as a city in 1959.

Annexations and an influx of new residents have given St. Peters the distinction of being one of the fastest growing cities in the state. From 1970 to 1980 its population jumped 3100 percent!

The city is actively courting business and industrial growth with a progressive, pro-growth attitude, and over 1,550 businesses are now licensed. St. Peters is also home to Mid Rivers Mall and The Rec-Plex with a huge Olympic pool!

O'Fallon Real Estate

A younger city than either St. Peters or St. Charles, O'Fallon had a total population of 100 when it was incorporated in 1912. Yet, the seven square-mile city boasted 18,698 residents in 1990. The new homes here tend to be more moderately priced than elsewhere in the "Golden Triangle." O'Fallon's major industries include Master Card, MEMC Electronic Materials, Rel-Tec, Inc., True Manufacturing, American Mail-Well Envelopes, Drug Package, Inc. and Hitchener Manufacturing Company.

Lake St. Louis Real Estate

Lake St. Louis, located only 17 minutes from Chesterfield near the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 40 is developed around two large lakes - a 550-acre lake (skiing permitted) and a 75-acre lake (sailboats and boats with 10 hp engines only). The city, which was incorporated in 1975, is touted as being metropolitan St. Louis' "only year round recreational/residential community." It is a veritable resort - a 3,000 acre playground. Besides the lakes, Lake St. Louis is complete with just about every other recreational amenity imaginable. There are two golf courses, one a nine hole and the other and 18 hole course, plus country clubs, tennis courts, parks, pools, horseback riding and boarding facilities.

A number of the homes in the community are custom built on varied sized lots. It also offers its residents apartment living plus numerous condominium communities.

Wentzville Real Estate

Named after Erasmus L. Wentz, principal engineer of the North Missouri Railroad, Wentzville grew up primarily as a tobacco farming territory. The new I-70 Corporate Plaza and the sprawling General Motors Plant have injected urban influence into Wentzville, but the community retains its prairie town appeal.

Wentzville was named in Money Magazine (Jan. '96) as one of the Top 100 School Districts in the Nation.
